The System is Rigged: And Other Truths We'd Rather Ignore

I was just binge-watching Law & Order: SVU, and this one episode really hit me hard. It's called "Goliath," and it's about a group of soldiers who return from Afghanistan with severe mental health issues after being exposed to a dangerous drug. The military knew about the side effects but covered it up, leaving these soldiers to suffer the consequences.

The 'Performance Punishment' Trap: Working Harder, Getting Less?

🤯 You're Working Yourself to Death, But Still Not Getting Promoted? You Might Be a Victim of "Performance Punishment" 🤯

Hi kesayangan busy bees 🐝 Ever feel like you're running yourself ragged, pulling all-nighters, and basically living at the office? Nak tutup mata, fikir kerja. Buka mata, fikir kerja. You barely even sleep, and your blood type: espresso triple shot 🏢 You're crushing it, right? But then, bam, instead of that sweet, sweet promotion you've been dreaming of, your boss slaps you with… more work? 😵‍💫

Welcome to the dark side, my friend. You've just experienced "performance punishment." ☠️

What the Heck is "Performance Punishment"?

Basically, it's this twisted game where your hard work is rewarded with… more work. 🤯 You go above and beyond, consistently deliver stellar results, and even volunteer for extra projects (because, hey, who doesn't love a challenge, right?). 🤪 But instead of recognizing your dedication and rewarding you with that well-deserved promotion, your boss just keeps piling on the pressure. 🥵

Why Does This Even Happen?
  1. "Cheap Labor" Mentality: Some bosses see your hard work as an opportunity to exploit you. 🤑 They figure, "Hey, this person is already killing it, let's just keep giving them more and more!" 💰

  2. Lack of Appreciation: Your boss might simply not recognize or value your contributions. 😒 They might be oblivious to your hard work, or maybe they're just, well, a bit of a jerk. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  3. Fear of Losing You: If you're a top performer, your boss might be afraid of losing you to another company. 😱 So, they keep you busy and overwhelmed, hoping to keep you from looking for greener pastures.
How to Break Free From the "Performance Punishment" Trap:
  1. Set Boundaries: Learn to say "no." 🙅🏻‍♀️ It's okay to decline extra work if you're already overloaded.

  2. Document Your Achievements: Keep a record of all your accomplishments, big and small. 📝 This will come in handy during performance reviews.

  3. Have a Conversation: Schedule a one-on-one meeting with your boss. ☕️ Clearly and calmly explain how the current workload is impacting you and discuss your career goals.

  4. Look for Other Opportunities: If things don't improve, it might be time to start looking for a new job. 💼 There are plenty of companies out there that will appreciate your talent and hard work.
Don't Let Them Grind You Down, okay!

You deserve to be recognized and rewarded for your hard work tau girl! 🏆 Don't let "performance punishment" derail your career. 🚫 Set boundaries, advocate for yourself, and remember your worth. #KitaMahal
