LEGOLAND® School Challenge 2023: ASEAN's Best Young LEGO Builders Compete to Shape the Cities of the Future

The challenge received unprecedented 370 submissions from students representing Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines

 

Hey there, LEGO enthusiasts and curious minds!

The exciting news is buzzing in the world of LEGO – the LEGOLAND School Challenge 2023 has wrapped up with an incredible display of creativity and imagination! Powered by Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) and hosted by LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort, this year's challenge brought together an astounding 370 school group submissions from across the ASEAN region – a staggering 80% increase from the previous year!

The theme "Cities of The Future" sparked the imaginations of nearly 4,000 students and teachers from various backgrounds, with a majority of the submissions coming from Malaysian schools, while esteemed schools from Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines also made their mark, representing 10% of the total submissions.

The young builders truly pushed the boundaries of innovation and creativity, crafting remarkable LEGO creations that embodied the spirit of the challenge. Out of the numerous submissions, the judging panel selected 10 exceptional LEGO Builds that captured the essence of the theme in the most imaginative ways.

But that's not all! This year's challenge featured a special category, the "IIB Catalyst of Change Award," sponsored by Iskandar Investment Berhad, which celebrated futuristic urban structures focusing on emerging technology and sustainability elements. Entries in this category were judged based on originality, innovative design, imaginative use of the theme, and incorporation of sustainable elements, with public engagement on IIB's social media platforms playing a part in determining the winner.

The deserving winners received prizes worth up to an impressive total of RM100,000, including an educational trip to LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, an awe-inspiring trophy crafted from LEGO bricks, and an exclusive opportunity to participate in one of LEGOLAND Malaysia’s STEM education programs. Additionally, the lucky winners will attend an exclusive workshop with LEGO Master Model Builders, honing their skills and deepening their love for LEGO creations.

What's more, the prize-giving ceremony at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort brought together students from different nations, offering a unique opportunity for cross-cultural interactions, idea-sharing, and learning from each other. Through their LEGO creations, schools not only showcased their creativity but also their cultural values, adding a diverse perspective to the challenge.

The winning LEGO brick models will be proudly displayed at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort until mid-September 2023, allowing guests to marvel at the extraordinary talent and dedication of these young builders.

It's heartening to see that the LEGOLAND School Challenge has gained continued support and endorsement from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, as well as the Ministry of Education. This recognition highlights the challenge's significance as a platform for educational and cultural development, enabling students to engage in hands-on learning, develop essential skills, and explore their creative potential through LEGO building.
