Kacang Pool Recipe: A Heartwarming Hit in Our Home

As a mom, finding meals that are both wholesome and quick to make is a top priority. In this adventure in the kitchen, we're exploring a delightful dish called Kacang Pool. It's a Malaysian twist on a classic Middle Eastern recipe called foul medammas, which uses fava beans and a mix of aromatic spices. This simple dish is a perfect fit for busy families like ours because it's not only easy to prepare but also nutritious and really satisfying.
Think of beans as kitchen superheroes – they're easy to get, affordable, and packed with nutrients. Let's journey together into the world of Kacang Pool. It's a dish that blends different culinary traditions, resulting in a tasty and unique meal. What's great is that making it is super easy, the ingredients are good for us, and it's a comfort food that warms the heart. So, as we gather with our loved ones, Kacang Pool reminds us that cooking isn't just about food – it's about bringing people together with flavors that make us smile.

Let's dive into the kitchen adventure with a list of ingredients you'll need:

400 grams of minced beef
1 can of foul bean (Kimball's brand)
1 small can of baked beans (Ayam Brand)
1 can of red beans (any brand)
2 tablespoons of meat curry powder (Baba's brand)
2 tablespoons of coriander powder (Baba’s brand)
1 teaspoon of finely ground black pepper
10 shallots (finely blended)
4 cloves of garlic (finely blended)
1-inch piece of ginger (finely blended)
A pinch of salt and sugar
1 cube of beef stock
2 cups of water
Cooking oil for sautéing

Now, let's whip up this flavorful feast:
  1. Start by melting ghee or butter in a big pot. Toss in the finely blended shallots, garlic, and ginger, and let the amazing smells fill the air – about 3 minutes is all it takes.
  2. Time to add some magic! Sprinkle in the spices and give them a good stir-fry for another minute until they transform into a fragrant potion. Watch the oil work its magic.
  3. Say hello to the minced beef as it joins the party. Keep stirring for around 7-8 minutes, letting all the flavors dance. Pour in 2 cups of water and let it bubble away.
  4. The beans take their turn in the spotlight. Gently mix in the kidney beans, baked beans, and red beans, along with their liquid companions. Let this aromatic blend simmer on medium heat for around 10-15 minutes, allowing the spices to paint the beans with their flavors.
  5. Taste time! Canned beans often come with a pinch of salt, so give it a taste before sprinkling more. If you're feeling fancy, add a dash of black pepper too.
  6. Now, let's plate up this masterpiece! Scoop out some of these flavorful beans and create a canvas of deliciousness. Top it off with fried eggs, green chili slices, a splash of lime juice, finely chopped purple onions, and if you're feeling adventurous, a sprinkle of cumin and chili powder. And don't forget to give your bread or baguette a golden hug of butter (or ghee) before serving.
WE LOVE KACANG POOL!

It's safe to say that Kacang Phool has earned a special place in our family routine. Even though I wasn't sure if my little ones would take to it, they've actually fallen in love with it! Personally, I'm a big fan too – not only is it easy to make, but I can also cook up a big batch that keeps us well-fed for several meals. It's a win-win that brings joy to all of us!
